Dear Delphine, thank you for your both thoughtful and beautiful books! What do you read at the moment?
Dear Johanna, thank you for your questions ! I’m sorry for my written English, which is not very good. I hope you will understand the answers. At the moment, I read ”Omega Point” from Don DeLillo, who is one of my favourite American writers. I don’t know if his books are translated in Swedish, but, according to me, he is one of the most important contemporary authors. I like the way he matches little and very common things of the daily life with, in the same time, social, political or historical facts.
What genre do you prefer ?
I generally read novels (fiction) and short stories. I don’t know why.
Is there a genre that you really hate? Please motivate (all) your answers!
I don’t hate, but I don’t read fantasy (fantastic and science fiction books). I think I should, because I’m sure that there are very interesting books in this genre, but I never find the time to read them !
How do you sort books in your bookshelf and how do you treat your books? Do you make ”dog ears”, write in your books or do you kind of use gloves when you read?
I consider that books are made to live and I like the idea that they keep the mark and the signs of the reading.. I write on them, I turn down the corner of the pages, I take them everywhere I go (I generally have several books in my handbag). Later, I like to take a book I’ve already read and to discover and read again the fragments I specially appreciated.
Soon it’s Christmas, what book would you like to give away to someone you like? What book would you like to get?
When I love a book or when I discover a new author, I offer his or her book to everyone I know! A few weeks ago, I read a book from Charles Juliet (a French author) which really moved me. ”Lambeaux” in french. It is about his childhood and how he became a writer. I think I will offer it to all my friends for this Christmas. As far as I’m concerned, I have so many books to read on my desk, I can’t get more !
Do you call yourself a reader? Have you always been a reader?
Yes, I’m a reader since I was 13 years old. I used to read only comics when I discovered ”Madame Bovary” (Flaubert) at school. It was a chock. I never stopped reading. I always have a bok in currency.
What do you prefer to read when you’re writing your books? Fiction, non fiction or something else?
When I’m writing, I read authors which are very far from my universe or my language. I can read non fiction or classical novels, for example.
What book would you recommend to No?
What book would you recommend to Mathilde?
”Le harcèlement moral” Marie-France Hirigoyen. I think the English title is : ”Stalking the soul”. About emotional abuse and the erosion of identity.
It would help her to understand what is happening to her.
